When the LORD God had formed out of the ground every animal in the field and every bird in the air, He brought them to the man to see what he would call them, and whatever the man called a certain living being that became its name. And so the man gave a name to all the cattle, the birds in the air, and every wild animal. But no helper such as he needed was found for the man.
So the LORD God had the man fall into a deep sleep, and while he was sleeping, He took out one of his ribs and filled up its place with flesh. Out of the rib He had taken from the man the LORD God made a woman and brought her to the man.
Now this is bone from by bones, the man said, and flesh of my flesh. She shall be called woman because she was taken from man. (AAT)
So out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him. So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said,
"This at last is bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called Woman,
because she was taken out of Man." (ESV)
Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name. [20] So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him. [21] And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. [22] Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. [23] And Adam said:
"This is now bone of my bones
And flesh of my flesh;
She shall be called Woman,
Because she was taken out of Man." (NKJV)
